In the 2021 NBA draft, the team selected Jalen Green with the second overall pick out of the NBA G League Ignite, pairing him alongside Kevin Porter Jr., who was acquired via trade the season prior for a top-55 protected second round pick. In the 2021–22 season, the Rockets were once again bottom of the league, with a 20–62 record. Jalen Green was selected to the NBA All-Rookie First Team with averages of 17.3 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 2.6 assists. In the 2022 NBA draft, the Rockets selected Jabari Smith Jr. at third and Tari Eason at 17th. While McGrady wound up playing only half the games before enduring a season-ending microfracture surgery, the Rockets ended the season 53–29, enough for the Western Conference's fifth seed. During the playoffs, the Rockets beat the Portland Trail Blazers four games to two, winning their first playoff round since 1997.
He has more seasons in the NBA than the entire Rockets active roster on Thursday. They all played and are all key players for the Heat even when full strength, though Robinson does not play every night and has averaged just 17 minutes. The Heat arrived at Toyota Center with 12 players listed on the injury report.

Still, the duo was plagued with injuries – of the 463 regular season games for which they were teammates, Yao missed 146 and McGrady 160 – and did not win any playoff series, despite gathering leads over the Dallas Mavericks in 2005 and the Jazz in 2007. Despite this, Yao was selected to carry his home country's Five-star Red Flag at the Summer Olympics opening ceremony held at home in 2008. After the 2007 elimination, Van Gundy was fired, and the Rockets hired Rick Adelman to replace him.
KJ Martin added 18 points and 4 assists off the bench on 7-of-11 shooting (63.6%) and 2-of-4 on 3-pointers (50%), while Alperen Sengun had 13 points (62.5% FG), 12 rebounds and 6 assists at center. Houston (9-22) has dropped four straight home games and two to the Spurs and Magic, teams widely viewed as rebuilding rivals. The NBA retired Bill Russell's No. 6 for all its member teams on August 11, 2022. The 2021–22 Rockets' "City" uniform referenced various uniform designs from the past. The modified "ketchup and mustard" logo on the waist, as well as a diagonally arranged "Houston" wordmark and block numbers, paid tribute to the 1975–1995 uniforms.
2001: The Hakeem Olajuwon era
The lack of shooting takes a toll on any team’s morale, especially a team as young as the Rockets. The reason they fell into that hole has been something that has plagued them over the last 10 games plus and that is three-point shooting. The Rockets are a combined 8-for-53 from beyond the arc the last two games and are the worst team in the league over the last 10 games from three-point range at 26.5 percent. That is a full four percent worse then the 29th-ranked team during that time. The Heat got the predictable strong play from Butler, who had 13 points, seven rebounds and four assists in the half. Herro picked up where he left off the night before in Oklahoma City, going from a career-high 35 points to score 25 in the first half.
After a fan contest with over 5,000 entries, the team went with the idea of Missouri City artist Thomas Nash of a rocket orbiting a basketball, which was then reworked by Houston designer Chris Hill. Nash would later sue the Rockets for breach of contract, given they were using his idea despite not having paid the contest prizes. The NBA suggested that the identity should follow the cartoon-inspired imagery that other teams adopted during the 1990s, leading to a rocket painted with sharkmouth nose art orbiting a basketball. Red was retained, but navy blue and silver became the uniform's primary colors. Both the home white and away navy uniforms featured gradient-fading pinstripes and futuristic number fonts, with side stripes of navy fading to red.

In the following off-season, a 38-year-old Olajuwon requested a trade, and, despite stating their desire to keep him, the Rockets reached a sign-and-trade agreement, sending him to the Toronto Raptors. The ensuing 2001–02 season—the first without Hakeem in two decades—was unremarkable, and the Rockets finished with only 28 wins. During the 2016 off-season, Mike D'Antoni was named as the Rockets' new head coach, and Dwight Howard opted out of his contract's final year, becoming a free agent.

They're set to faceoff against the Victoria Royals in a Friday night matchup at Prospera Place. The jury is still out on OG Anunoby though the plan is to have him back for the finale. Gary Trent Jr. then followed it up with a highlight-reel slam of his own before nailing a go-ahead three-pointer with five minutes to go. Scottie Barnes absolutely electrified the arena with a ferocious one-handed slam on a transition feed from Pascal Siakam as Toronto inched closer to a comeback midway through the fourth.

It was established in 1967 as the San Diego Rockets, an expansion team originally based in San Diego. After Friday nights game the team will pack up and head out on a four-game road trip before going home for Christmas. They'll play on Tuesday the 11th in Kootenay, Wednesday the 12th in Lethbridge, Friday the 14th in Calgary and Saturday the 15th in Medicine Hat. Following the break, the Rockets will play a home and home series with the Kamloops Blazers. The first game will take place in Kamloops Friday, December 28th before shifting back to Kelowna the next night.
Their first loss of the season came on December 3, 1993, as the Hawks, led by Dominique Wilkins' 27 points, defeated the Rockets, 133–111. The next game, the Rockets stormed a comeback against the Cleveland Cavaliers as they won by a single point, 99–98, on the road. The Rockets now had won their first 16 out of 17 games of the season, tying the 1948–49 Capitols for the best 17-game start in a season, at that time. On December 9, Olajuwon recorded 28 points, 16 rebounds and 4 blocks as the Rockets cruised past the visiting Heat in overtime to win their 18th game of the season.
The New York Knicks opened a 3–2 advantage, but the Rockets won the last two games on their home court and claimed their first championship in franchise history. Olajuwon was awarded the Finals MVP, after averaging 27 points, nine rebounds and four blocked shots a game. During the 2017 off-season, the Rockets were purchased by Houston restaurant billionaire Tilman Fertitta for $2.2 billion, breaking the record for the price to purchase an American professional sports team. The team also acquired 8-time All-NBA player and 9-time All-Star Chris Paul in a trade from the Los Angeles Clippers, in exchange for seven players, cash considerations, and a top three protected 2018 first round draft pick. Even if Paul missed many games due to a knee injury, he was a key addition to the Rockets. The team finished the season with 65 wins, a record both league-leading and the best in franchise history.
Yet, San Antonio’s record (9-20) is identical, and Rockets have fought back with some of their best performances after struggling — as evidenced by the two straight wins posted by the Rockets to start this current homestand. They have also had clear low points, such as Saturday’s lethargic showing while shooting 3-of-29 on 3-pointers (10.3%) in a home loss to Portland and a Dec. 8 blowout loss at San Antonio, where the Spurs entered with 11 consecutive losses. The Rockets made their first significant rotation change in weeks, with rookie TyTy Washington Jr. playing for eight minutes to end the first quarter and start the second in the minutes that Daishen Nix normally plays. The Heat were without centers Bam Adebayo, Dewayne Dedmon and Omer Yurtseven and guards Kyle Lowry, Victor Oladipo and Gabe Vincent. It was a bit of an awkward start to the night for Thad Young who was tabbed with thanking the fans during pre-game festivities. Let's just say, there weren't very many fans in their seats at that point and the applause was minimal at best.
The Rockets were led by Kevin Porter Jr., who scored a game-high 31 points on 12-of-19 shooting (63.2%) and 5-of-9 on 3-pointers (55.6%). However, he had 5 assists compared to a game-high 5 turnovers, and those proved costly late as Houston struggled to counter Orlando’s zone. Jalen Green had 21 points (47.1% FG) and 8 rebounds, but he went scoreless in the fourth quarter and only shot once. For the players drafted by Houston Rockets, see List of Houston Rockets first and second round draft picks. The Rockets' "City" uniform for the 2020–21 season featured a powder blue base as a nod to the city of Houston. For the 2021–22 season, the Rockets announced a partnership with Credit Karma to be featured on the team's jerseys as a sponsor.
For the 2003–04 season, the Rockets moved into their new arena, the Toyota Center, with a seating capacity of 18,500. During the 2007–08 season where the team achieved a 22-game winning streak, the Rockets got their best numbers to date, averaging 17,379 spectators. The Rockets averaged 18,123 spectators during the 2013–14 season, selling out 39 out of the 41 home games.
Heat 111, Rockets 108: Home winning streak comes to an end
Their first win of the season came on October 26, 1971, with a 104–103 win over the home team, Detroit Pistons. Their second win of the season came five days later, a 102–87 win over the Buffalo Braves. After that game, the Rockets lost their next 8 games, against the Knicks, Trail Blazers, Bullets , Warriors, Celtics, Bucks and Bulls.
The Heat played with such greater energy, they outscored the Rockets 6-6 on second-chance points, beating the Rockets, the league’s top offensive rebounding team, at their own game. Jalen Green led the Rockets with 22 points, his third consecutive 20-point game and fourth in five games. "It's our last home game before the break, so we're trying to end it on a high note. It's going be fun playing against Victoria, they're a good team, and it's always exciting games. Hopefully, we can come out strong and on top."
