Utopia of the Seas Cruise Ship First-hand Expert Review

Picture dishes like buttery escargot, succulent Maine lobster tail, tender filet mignon and even classic spaghetti Bolognese. If you're traveling with little ones, don't worry — the main dining room also offers a menu curated especially for kids. Dining here is complimentary, with very few exceptions — such as an extra charge for lobster on non-formal nights.

Unlike the sisterships, Utopia OTS doesn't have Wonderland Imaginative Cuisine. The restaurant (popular for its extravagant gourmet dishes) was replaced by Giovanni's Italian Kitchen & Wine Bar which on Utopia is on two floors - aft on deck 11 (the restaurant) and deck 12 (the wine bar). Utopia's Giovanni restaurant also features an exterior terrace overlooking the ship's interior (Boardwalk Neighborhood).

The 48-seat venue itself is designed as a classic passenger railcar and has two cars, each seating 24 people. Located on Deck 15/pool deck, this complimentary eatery offers handheld fast food and quick bites. Follows the complete list of Utopia of the Seas restaurants and food bars. Sky Junior Suites (cat JY) are eight staterooms midship on Deck 6 (within the Suite Neighborhood) with expanded benefits (Sky Class) while standard Junior Suites (cat J3-J4) are Sea Class. Sky Junior Suite's perks include access to Coastal Kitchen (Suite-only complimentary restaurant/dining room). Among Utopia OTS' most prominent features is the multi-deck waterslide "The Ultimate Abyss".

Under construction at the Chantiers de l'Atlantique shipyard in France, Utopia of the Seas will be powered by LNG, which is currently considered to be the cleanest marine fuel. Royal Caribbean's Icon of the Seas, the first in the all-new Icon Class, will become the line's first LNG ship when it debuts in 2023. Utopia of the Seas will also feature the latest technology to save energy and further reduce emissions and more details will be released at a later date.

Next door, Izumi in the Park will serve sushi and Japanese-inspired sweets to-go. Delivery, however, does not mean the ship begins sailing with passengers in spring 2024. Wonder of the Seas, for example, was delivered to Royal Caribbean in January 2022, but her inaugural sailing was not until March 4, 2022. Being that Utopia will be the first Oasis Class cruise ship to be powered by Liquified Natural Gas, or LNG, it makes sense that her homeport will be Port Canaveral, Florida.

Something brand new to Utopia of the Seas is an immersive dining experience that combines visuals and dining to create something not seen before on Royal Caribbean. Mr. Budden alluded to the fact MSC's World Europa now claims to have the longest dry slide at sea, so the team at Royal Caribbean felt compelled to make changes to the Ultimate Abyss. "If you don't have the base of the vessel completed, it increases exponentially the complexity of building around it. So we all rejoiced on the day that we physically saw that those tanks were delivered," he shared during the webinar. During the webinar, two members of Royal Caribbean's product development team shared a photo update of how the new cruise ship is progressing.

Each of the Oasis-class vessels has three separate pool areas, a kiddie splash zone, a surfing simulator, a miniature golf course, a basketball court and even a zip line. While Icon of the Seas is the first of an all-new class of ships for Royal Caribbean (the Icon class), Utopia of the Seas is just the latest ship in the line's 14-year-old Oasis-class series of vessels. Putting one of Royal Caribbean's newest and most amenity-filled ships on short-cruisers will let the line "make that first impression, the best impression" with first-time cruisers, she added. In an interview with TPG in advance of Tuesday's announcement, Royal Caribbean chief marketing officer Kara Wallace suggested that Royal Caribbean was specifically going after the "new to cruise" market with the sailings — people who have never cruised before. It's a segment of vacationers that often is wary of booking a cruise longer than three or four days, in case they don't love it. Royal Caribbean has yet to announce the total number of cabins on Utopia of the Seas.

Utopia of the Seas will have the dry slide experience, known as the Ultimate Abyss, albeit with a few tweaks. "This is going to be an incredibly relaxing experience where people can go and just spend the day really in a climate controlled environment, which we've never been able to deliver to this extent before." "It's actually going to be a huge Izumi with both Teppanyaki and Sushi. The relocation really allowed us to expand the number of teppanyaki tables. So we now have six tables versus three on previous Oasis class ships," said Ms. Chin-Sang. With more than 20 dining options, every type of vacationer can take their taste buds on a world tour while island hopping in The Bahamas. Members of Royal Caribbean's Crown & Anchor Society loyalty program will be able to book initial sailings for Utopia of the Seas starting Thursday. Icon of the Seas also will boast a number of buzzworthy new features, as you can see in our sneak-peek video below.

ALL THE WEEKEND’S A STAGE

June 2023 – Whether it’s days by the pool or the beach, both can be found on the ultimate getaway with Royal Caribbean’s new Utopia of the Seas. Complemented by Perfect Day at CocoCay’s white sand beaches, the vibes across the new ship’s five pools range from upbeat to lowkey for everyone. Highlights include resort-style pools that come to life with the lively Lime & Coconut bar, three-story waterslides at The Perfect Storm and spots to grab a bite to eat like the new poolside food truck. June 2023 – Royal Caribbean’s new Utopia of the Seas will be the first Oasis Class ship to debut with 3- to 4-night getaways. Delicious dining options play a big role in every Utopia of the Seas℠ sailing. The ship offers a mouthwatering selection of free restaurants onboard, serving up tantalizing cuisine from around the world.

However, in March, RCI added a new inaugural voyage - the 3-night "Bahamas and Perfect Day Cruise" (departure July 19th, 2024, roundtrip from Port Canaveral to CocoCay and Nassau). Central Park is an outdoor relaxation zone (within the ship's interior) with ~21000 live plants. Central Park's huge garden features multi-deck-high metal columns and green walls (covered in vines and ferns), several pathways, recordings of various species (birds, insects, animals) played, live seasonal plants (flowers, shrubs, trees). Signage boards provide detailed info on all Central Park's trees and plants. Based on the dinner reservation there will be different trains for boarding.

The team also talked about the fact they considered many other changes to the Ultimate Abyss, but skipped them because guests would not necessarily notice them. "It allows us to have complete climate control. Our guests have really, really loved the Solarium experience there, so we're leveraging that again with Utopia and building on the lessons learned." Compared to other Oasis Class ships, Utopia of the Seas will have a few changes to Central Park.

And that's not all — the ship's Ultimate Abyss℠ also has zoom booster rollers and see-through racing windows that make the ride even more thrilling than ever. Drop by Café Promenade on Deck 5 in the morning, afternoon or at night for brewed coffee, lattes and cappuccinos paired with tasty pastries and other quick-and-easy bites. For more of an old-school diner vibe, head to Park Café in the ship's Central Park®️ neighborhood on Deck 8, where you'll find a great breakfast spread; delicious soups, salads and sandwiches at lunch; and crave-worthy tapas served alfresco in the evenings. The "train dining" experience (simulating a Dining Car on a train) is exclusive to Utopia OTS and starts on Deck 4, at a yet-to-be-named restaurant that occupies the area of Izumi (on all OASIS-class ships). When completed, Utopia OTS (together with Wonder OTS) will be the world's ever-biggest cruise ship by both GT-tonnage/volume and passenger capacity. Utopia will have a new tiki bar experience, new dining experiences, immersive dining, and an open deck filled with plenty of activities.

No cruise is complete without a night of belly laughs at the onboard comedy club. On Utopia of the Seas℠, that club is called The Attic, and admission is free. This adults-only hotspot can hold a candle to some of the best clubs in Manhattan and Chicago. It hosts a changing lineup of stand-up comedians specializing in everything from sketch comedy to slapstick.

Traditionally, major cruise lines such as Royal Caribbean have devoted their newest and biggest ships to seven-night sailings — a more lucrative market — and placed older and smaller vessels on shorter runs. Royal Caribbean's move is a bold bet that placing one of its latest and greatest vessels in the short-cruise market will drive a surge of new customers. Aside from the brand-new Royal Railway, Utopia of the Seas will feature more than 20 dining experiences, including new and classic venues. The venue -- named Royal Railway -- will consist of an immersive multisensory dining experience that will take diners on virtual train rides throughout the world, while enjoying food and beverages of the destinations displayed on digital screens. In a first for Royal Caribbean, Utopia will enter service offering just short cruises.

Currently the largest "Family Suite" at sea accommodates up to 8 passengers. The 2024-built Utopia of the Seas cruise ship is RCI's fourth/last OASIS-PLUS class liner, with sisterships Wonder OTS (2022), Harmony OTS (2016), Symphony OTS (2018). Utopia OTS just slightly exceeds in size the original OASIS class vessels Oasis OTS (2009) and Allure OTS (2010). Ms. Chin-Sang described the experience "Deck 12, where you enter, will be the wine bar. You'll walk down the spiral staircase that goes around a huge olive tree into the deck 11 Italian kitchen." The other new vessel, Icon of the Seas, will arrive in January 2024 and has been getting more press of late as it'll be the biggest cruise ship ever built. Utopia of the Seas is just one of two giant new ships that Royal Caribbean plans to debut in 2024 — both among the biggest cruise vessels in the world.
